Funeral services for Ronald Glenn Jones, 60 of Sisseton, SD was held on Tuesday afternoon, December 1, 2009 at the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Community Center, Agency Village, SD with the Rev. Charlie Chan officiating.
Pianist was Billy Kohl.
Pallbearers were Raymond Jones, Jarrod Lee, Kingsmill Johnson, Dustin Kirk, Patrick Deutsch Jr., Leroy Quinn Jr., Michael Wakeman, and Ephriem Redearth.
Honorary pallbearers were Sam Allen, Stub Wakeman, Steven Erickson, Ted Grinnell, Floyd Kirk Jr., Kojak Heminger, Frank Barse, Milton Hill, Larry Blue, Charlie Renville, and Dennis Keeble.
Interment is at St. Mary’s Episcopal Cemetery, Agency Village, SD. Military Rites were provided by the American Legion Post, VFW, the Sandmen, Gordon Weston Post and Vietnam Veterans.
There was a wake service on Monday night at the Community Center.
The Cahill funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD was in charge of arrangements.
Ronald Glenn Jones was born on June 7, 1949 in Sisseton, SD to Kingsmill and Louise (Renville) Jones.
Ron attended and graduated from Flandreau Public School in 1968. Ron played high school football for Coach Tiger McGlone and was called on by the coach to return to Flandreau and give speeches to upcoming players several times.
Ronald entered the U.S. Army, September 23, 1968 7th MP Co. APO96207 8th Army and was stationed in Korea.
He was discharged September 22, 1974.
He received the National Defense Service Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Korea Medal.
Ron attended and graduated from Haskell Indian Junior College in Lawrence, Kansas where he met and married Sally Gishie on April 1, 1975.
Ron graduated from Baker University with a degree in Business Administration.
Ron and Sally had a daughter, Lisa Louise on September, 1975. Ron worked for the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe for many years.
When Ron relocated to Sisseton he never missed the opportunity to stop in at Fat Boys to visit with “the Erickson Boys” who were lifelong friends and Laurie Babcock-Thomas who worked for Ron and remained a good friend. Ron was the Executive Director of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Housing Authority twice with several years as the Purchasing Agent for Dakota Magic Casino in between that time.
During his tenure with the Housing Authority Ron served as the Secretary/Treasurer for the National NAHASDA Board.
Ron currently served as Chairman of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Housing Board. Ron was a member of the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
Ron loved to fish; he spent a lot of time at Pickerel Lake with Dennis, Darrell, Ruthie and Mary. Ron was an avid Jimmie Johnson fan; we think Jimmie won his fourth consecutive race just for Ron. Ron had many friends and enjoyed “socializing” with them.
Ron had one son, “by choice” who we all refer to as “Patrick G. Jones” and his very special “Jaylah.”
Ron suffered from a stroke on November 11, 2009. He passed way on November 29, 2009 with his mother at his side.
Ronald is survived by one daughter, Lisa Jones of Indian Wells, AZ; his mother Louise of Sisseton, SD; two sisters, Karen Bianas of Sisseton, SD and Juanita Jones of Agency Village; adopted sisters, Eleanor Kirk and Barbara Kirk of Sisseton, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his father, Kingsmill, a brother, John, and his wife Sally.
